[Choreographies of the Everyday]9 November | Jonathas de Andrade Directed Games: Film Screening with Live Music Performance

Jonathas de Andrade, Jogos Dirigidos (Directed Games), 2019
In Jonathas de Andrade’s film Directed Games, presented in the 30th Anniversary Exhibition Choreographies of the Everyday, vocabulary from a uniquely developed sign language in the community of Várzea Queimada (Brazil) appears on screen, each word accompanied by the resonant sounds of percussion and whistle, impressing the vivid moment of learning new words.
At this special screening, a live session with percussion instruments and everyday objects will be performed in sync with the film, allowing the dynamic interplay of text and sound to be experienced more profoundly.
Join the artist Jonathas de Andrade and musician Homero Basílio from Brazil to share in the live resonance and vibration of this unique event.
Audience members are also welcome to bring their own small percussion instruments or everyday objects that make sounds and join in the session.
- Examples of small percussion: shakers, bells, tambourines, castanets, and other handheld instruments
- Examples of everyday objects: small metal or wooden items that produce sound
Please refrain from bringing electronic instruments, fragile items, or anything too large to be carried in one hand.
