Uehara Sayaka

Born 1993 in Okinawa, Japan, and currently based there.
Spurred by the sense of distance and unease she felt at representations of "Okinawa" as an object of consumption, Uehara began photographing Okinawa as a space contiguous with her everyday life. Since then, she has continued to capture the various traces that appear on the surface of unassuming scenes in her photography, gradually revealing Okinawa as a land where culture, history, issues, memories, and scars are superimposed in countless layers.
The exhibition features selections from Uehara' s Sleeping Trees series, photographed on Okinawa Island between 2016 and 2022, along with new works.
