Idemitsu Mako
Born 1940 in Tokyo, Japan, and currently based there.
Idemitsu Mako’s experiences of oppression within the patriarchal environment of her household, and later within her married life in the United States, led her to develop a strong desire for artistic expression. After teaching herself film production, she began producing a series of video works in the early 1970s that served as sharp social critiques on the role of the housewife.
This exhibition features Another Day of a Housewife (1977), which critiques social norms surrounding women by depicting the daily life of a housewife.
