武満徹|Toru Takemitsu 
1930年生まれ。主に独学で作曲を学び、1950年ピアノ独奏曲《2つのレント》で作曲家デビュー。1951年、ジャンルを超えた芸術家グループ「実験工房」を結成。「20世紀音楽研究所」、草月アート  センターの「作曲家集団」などの前衛音楽グループにも参加。1959年、弦楽合奏曲「弦楽のための   レクイエム」でその名を世界に広めた。1956年公開の映画「狂った果実」(中平康監督)をはじめ、  90本を超える映画音楽を手掛けた。『サイレント・ガーデン』(新潮社、1999年)、『音、沈黙と測りあえるほどに』(新潮社、1971年)等、多くの著作も残している。1996年東京で死去。
Born in 1930. He was a self-taught composer, and debuted in 1950 with the piano solo, Lento in due movimenti. In 1951 he formed the Jikken       Kobo (Experimental Workshop), a multi-genre artists group. He also participated in avant-garde music groups such as '20 seiki ongaku kenkyujo' (20th Century Music Institute), the Sogetsu Art Center's 'Sakkyokuka shudan' (Composers Group), etc. He achieved international fame in 1959 with his string ensemble Requiem for String Orchestra. Beginning with the score for Ko Nakahira's 1956 movie, Crazed Fruit, he went on to write music for over ninety movies. He also wrote many books, including Silent Garden (Shinchosha, 1999) and Sound: Confronting the Silence (Shinchosha, 1971). He died in Tokyo, 1996.
