Kohei Nawa ‒ SYNTHESIS
A solo exhibition presenting the work of Kohei Nawa (1975 -), who develops sculpture and spatial expressions utilizing the concept of the ‘Cell’. Nawa uses fluid materials and media, such as beads, prisms, expanded polyurethane, silicone oil, etc., as metaphors for the senses and thoughts of the information society, creating equivocal expressions of the reality of the body, perception, and a sensitivity that wavers between digital and analog. In addition to his work in various categories, such as BEADS / PRISM / LIQUID / GLUE / SCUM / DRAWING etc., also he is active and recognized internationally, collaborating with people in the fields of music, fashion and product design, as well as producing public art in team project. Architectural Environments for Tomorrow
—New Spatial Practices in Architecture and Art
As we enter the 21st century, we have witnessed the appearance of new lifestyles and public spaces brought about through computerization, and urbanization. What plans do architects propose, in collaboration with art and the people, to cope with changes in the environment, cities and population structure? People who live within this architectural space have worked in close cooperation with SANAA, one of the leading architectural units of the new age, to develop a new architectural program. This will be a completely new type of architectural exhibition introducing the aspects of the international trends displayed at last year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, joint projects between artists and architects and images of architecture. Focusing on the work of young Tokyo architects, it will present a wide range of activities including product and environmental design, displayed both within and outside the museum, as well as implementing joint projects with the Tokyo University of the Arts and other universities.
